Engagement Brunch in Alaska

On Sunday, June 25th Joran's parents organized a wonderful engagement party for us at their home in Anchorage, AK. It was a a great way for me to meet the Alaskan community that may not make it the wedding. Although the brunch started early, the sun does not set in Alaska this time of year so we partied until late.

There were a lot of people that showed up, so here is a filmstrip of just a few:

We also had three REALLY good ice-cream cakes...which was great practice for cutting "the cake" in the wedding. We are PROS! Look at us cut those pieces in perfect triangles:

We got some nice gifts, but the most interesting gift of all was the FISH BONKER we got (thanks Sue and Will) because I had NO idea what it was. To me, it looked like a small bat with our names engraved and a few hearts around it. I thought, "oh, a mini baseball bat, how cute!" until Joran told me it was a fish whacker...a WHACKER!? WHAT?! Yup...a fish whacker or bonker, whatever you want to call it, it does the same job: kills the fish after you catch them in the net. The idea is that if you whack the fish after you have it in the net, then you prevent the fish from suffocating to death. I guess you can call it Kosher? anyway, here is my version of what to do with a fish whacker/bonker:
